Meet Dr. Chapman

Kimberly A. Chapman, DDS

Education and Background Info:
Dr. Kim Chapman has owned and operated a private, solo dental practice for 15 years after being granted her Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Washington School of Dentistry. Prior to dental school, she completed 2 years of graduate work in Neurobiology and Molecular Biology at the University of Washington. She holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology,  a minor in Chemistry, and a minor in Music Performance. She graduated magna cum laude from Seattle Pacific University, and attended Graceland University in Lamoni, IA for 3 years in pursuit of her bachelor’s degree. At Graceland, she ran Women’s Cross Country and Track, was a Student Senator, a member of the Gadet dance team, and a founding member and co-president of the Graceland Science Club. She was born and raised in Colorado, and loves living in the west.
Since receiving her doctorate, she’s continued to stay informed of the latest dental techniques and scientific research through respected continuing education leaders and study clubs such as the Kois Institute, The Pankey Institute, The Seattle Study Club, Implants Live Northwest, and others.
Mountain Pearls’ goal is to provide Big Sky residents and visitors with a fresh approach to comprehensive dentistry, and relaxing dental visits. From the massaging recliner in the waiting area before your appointment, ample one on one time with the doctor during your visit, and hot steam towel at the end of your visit, this isn’t ‘business as usual’. We are committed to using and supporting environmentally sustainable products whenever possible, and whenever the quality of the product is at least equal if not superior to traditional products. Instead of plastic disposable giveaway toothbrushes, we provide our patients with biodegradable bamboo toothbrushes with bristles made from castor beans, and instead of only providing mainstream toothpaste products which contain ingredients many people would like to avoid such as carageenan, detergents such as SLS, artificial colorants, preservatives, phthalates, BPA, artifical sweeteners and plastic beads, we also provide samples of other outstanding toothpaste brands such as Hello and Dr. Bronner’s. Digital xrays not only drastically decrease the radiation exposure to patients (as low as 10% of the exposure compared to traditional films), they also eliminate the need for toxic fixing and developing solutions to be kept on site and then disposed of as hazardous materials later.
Other Personal Info:
My husband Chad Robbs and I have made Big Sky our permanent residence, and we were married last July at Big Sky’s picturesque Soldiers Chapel. We love the ease being able to hop on a bike to get around Big Sky in the warmer months for our commute into the office, Caliber Coffee, or the Hungry Moose, and in the winter only being minutes from a chairlift or cross country trail. I enjoy gardening, travel, music, skiing, biking, healthy cooking and fitness, sewing, and planning my next adventure race or rocking climbing trip.

If you are missing one or more teeth, dental implants offer the comfort and security of a permanent replacement that looks and functions just like your natural teeth. Dental implants also help preserve the tooth-supporting bone in your jaw that deteriorates when even one tooth is lost.

Cavity Risk Testing Are you the type of patient who has a new cavity every time you see a dentist, even though you brush and floss every day? Do you know someone who doesn’t brush and floss regularly, but never seems to get cavities? Why is that? Here’s why – through science, we now know that cavities are caused by very specific bacterial strains. If you don’t have those bacteria in your mouth, you won’t develop cavities. If you do have those bacteria, you can get cavities (also called caries) depending on how metabolically active they are. By doing a simple swab test and using a special light meter with breakthrough technology, we can test the activity level in your mouth of those bacteria and see if you are at risk for cavities in the future. This used to take more than a week when we had to send a saliva sample to a laboratory, but through technology improvements it now takes just 1 minute in our office. If you are at risk for cavities in the future, we will help you implement specific oral rinses that will change the pH of your mouth. An acidic pH will promote cavities because that is the pH the cavity causing bacteria need to live in. When we shift the pH to a basic or alkaline one, this will allow only the good bacteria to survive. End of cavities. Check out this website for further information: www.carifree.com, then call our office for your caries screening test.
